Wheel suckers, those annoying people that arrive on your back wheel from who knows where and then sit behind you without as much as a hi or bye…..Here are a few tips on how to get rid of them !!
Easiest option....Slow right downnnnnnnn so they have to come past you...then if you want to make a point...get on their wheel..... and do the same back to them !!!
Once they are in front of you then simple sprint from the back going wide then head down and go hard until you have left them for good.
Push them in the gutter....yup depending on where the wind is coming from you can move across and have them ride into the side of the road !!
On a climb.....As you hit the base of the climb excelerate hard, dont get out the saddle or you will give the game away. Once you have gone hard then ease slightly, remain seated and keep going.
On a switchback swing out really wide (as long as the traffic allows) your companion will be forced to take the inside then you can swing back behind him.
You can talk to them and ask them to take a turn....although i wouldnt recommend that as they may not have decent enough bike skills for you to follow.
You wont drop them on the flat.....really hard to drop someone on the flat, there is a reason that someone drafts you for an easy life however use the sprint technique mentioned above OR do some intervals like 30/30s or Over Under’s to disrupt their rhythm. This way you get a better workout and they get fed up with the constant changing pace.
Suck it up and live with it....At the end of the day someone drafting you makes you faster also !!!
